STEM SENSES

Explore the way plants experience the world

A note from the Author:

Hi, my name is Lucy Tallis, I am a student at the University of Sussex, and part of the Plant evolutionary ecology lab. I have produced this website as part of my dissertation, I hope you enjoy looking through it. Feel free to leave me feedback, It will only help me to improve the site further!

It may seem like plants and animals have little in common, but science is slowly uncovering the amazing adaptations plants have to sense the world around them.

Many of these adaptations had been thought to be exclusive to creatures within the animal kingdom. Especially as plants don't appear to have the "right" organs to see, hear or smell. However, plants possess ingenious ways to sense the world around the problem without having developed "typical" structures you would associate with the senses like ears or a nose.

This website allows you to explore plants through their own "eyes", conduct easy experiments at home and test your own knowledge of the plant senses.
